Like its predecessor Censore, Corriere dei teatri was directed by the man of letters, librettist, impresario and theatrical journalist Luigi Prividali, who "weaving a network of relationships with Italian and foreign correspondents and obviating the inevitable shortcomings with news drawn from other periodicals, manages to provide a general and as far as possible complete vision of theatrical activity in Italy first and then in major European cities."

Marco Capra and Fiamma Nicolodi (Venice: Marsilio, 2011)

Il Censore Universale dei Teatri  has been transformed into the Corriere dei Teatri. The form of the Corriere is more elegant, the paper more beautiful, the printing crisper. So far two issues have been published, one dated January 3, the other January 6, and the latter saw the light yesterday, the 20th. In the first issue, the Corriere tells you that it has sent a regiment of guards away, and in the second it announces that as the guards return, it will open their suitcases and let you know the news it has received. The first issue brings you news of the opening of the theaters in Milan on the evening of Saint Stephen's Day, and the January 6 issue published the day before gives you news of other theaters in Lombardy at the same time. All of this news, more or less, the public has already received for two months. If I were the Corriere dei Teatri I would like to throw off the bridle and with issue 3 arrive with an open career to the news on the Nozze di Figaro at La Scala, and on the Rossiniani that are sung at the [Teatro] Re, and this for one reason only: to be heard by many or at least by a few; otherwise, how can the Prividali newspaper be called a "Corriere"? As Corriere dei Teatri, should he not be the first to give theatrical news? All the more he should be the first because that old man of the trade, when he wants, knows how to accompany them with useful observations.”
