Images musicales

(Paris, 1945-1950)

RIPM Preservation Series: European and North American Music Periodicals (2023)

Periodicity: Weekly, later biweekly

Directeur Général: Jean-Marie Grenier

Making its debut in October 1945, Image musicales was the creation of the journalist and writer Jean-Marie Grenier. Begun as a weekly, but becoming a biweekly in 1948, Images musicales covered the musical and theatrical world, with some emphasis on Paris. Well-illustrated in its early years, with sixteen pages per issue, the journal provided musical news, reviews of concerts and recordings, and a chronicle of musical and theatrical events in Paris. Over time, the size of issues shrank, until the publication ceased with issue number 130 (20 April 1950), citing “the paper crisis and its scarcity.”
