RIPM seeks French-language citation and copy editor (23 April 2025)

The Répertoire international de la presse musicale (RIPM), a non-profit publisher of databases of historic musical literature, is seeking a part-time French language editor. The person will copy edit citations and indexing content for French-language jazz journals, published from ca. 1930 to 2000. These records will be included in RIPM Jazz Periodicals, a major research database for jazz and popular music history. For more information on RIPM, see ripm.org; for more information on RIPM Jazz see ripmjazz.org.

The editor will copy edit using RIPM's proprietary software, according to a clear set of guidelines. Publications emanate largely from France but also include Belgium and Switzerland. Training will occur at RIPM's office; thereafter, remote work may be possible. While musical knowledge is preferred, it is not required. While a reading and writing DALF C1 level is preferred, level B2 may be acceptable.

RIPM's office is located in south Charles Village (Maryland Avenue and 26th Street), very near the Johns Hopkins shuttle stop. Compensation is paid on an hourly basis, minimum $20 per hour. A minimum commitment to complete a project for publication in the autumn is required; thereafter, ongoing work may be available.

To apply, please send a résumé to Benjamin Knysak, Executive Editor, at bknysak@ripm.org. The position is available until filled.
